The Death Penalty

The death penalty is the reason I never ran for political office; I’ve flip-flopped on the issue several times. When I was young and innocent, I believed no one deserved to die. Now that I’m older, I realize we all do, and we all will. Later in life, I believed that the death penalty was a good idea, even if it didn’t reduce crime rates, because it would result in zero recidivism for at least one inmate in particular. I also believed a rope was cheaper than a prison, but as I learned more, I began to realize that in the specific case of the US justice system, it does indeed cost more to kill a prisoner than to keep him alive. I still felt death sentences were justified on moral grounds. This is what I’ve learned since: If we are to be a truly moral society, we must learn that final justice belongs to God and God only, because man’s justice is forever fatally flawed. The death penalty must be abolished.

The Healthcare Showdown

Pundits downplaying the issues and what’s at stake? What about a Congressman beating another Congressman nearly to death with his cane, breaking it in the process, and supporters sending him thousands of canes-this has HAPPENED, already. Do we want more of the same? Obama won huge last night, despite the best efforts of some members of his own party. Please don’t let the spinmeisters sell you the idea that Obama and the Democrats somehow subverted the will of the people; our system is better than that, and polls bear it out: sixty percent of Americans polled agree that something HAD to be done about our broken healthcare system. I believe that now that it’s been agreed that something MUST be done, the right thing to do has a chance to prevail. You didn’t really think it was over, right? Nice thing about a democratic republic, nothing’s ever really over. And odds are pretty good that if we need to change it back, we can do that, too. Now, ain’t them founding fathers smart?

Ann Coulter

I tried to read Ann Coulter’s book, just out of fairness, but it’s so poorly written, I couldn’t stand it. Never mind her insane political views, the woman is too stupid to write a book. I see these books in people’s houses, and I know now that they couldn’t possibly have read them, so why are they there? I’m gonna guess that they want us to think they’re smart. Well, that plan just backfired, as far as I’m concerned. Sure, Rush Limbaugh’s first couple of books were entertaining, and outline some basic conservative principles that I hold very dear, only they contained next to no factual data, as was ably proven, with real, actual research by Team Franken, but Ann Coulter? Barely ranks above B-grade Jackie Collins. I get that a lot of blue collar conservatives believe that if they try to think like rich people, they’ll become rich, but in this country, thinking like the so-called ‘conservative’ elites just makes you an asshole.
